Downtown is the central business district of Seattle, Washington. It is fairly compact compared to other city centers on the West Coast because of its geographical situation: hemmed in on the north and east by hills, on the west by the Elliott Bay, and on the south by reclaimed land that was once tidal flats. It is bounded on the north by Denny Way, beyond which are Lower Queen Anne (sometimes known as “Uptown”), Seattle Center, and South Lake Union; on the east by Broadway Avenue, beyond which is the Central District; on the south by Dearborn Avenue, beyond which is Sodo; and on the west by Elliott Bay. Belltown, the Denny Triangle, Pioneer Square, Chinatown, the West Edge, and the western flank of First Hill are sub-neighborhoods of Downtown. Near the center of Downtown is the Metropolitan Tract, owned by the University of Washington, the location of the university’s pre-1895 campus. Downtown is Seattle’s main financial district, waterfront, and shopping area (surrounding Westlake Center and connected to Seattle Center by way of a monorail), which make up the bulk of Downtown. It is also home to the landmark Pike Place Market.

Downtown Seattle’s Columbia Center has a greater number of floors than any other building west of the Mississippi River, at 76, though there are taller buildings in Texas and California by height. (Smith Tower, in the older section of Downtown near the waterfront, once held the title of tallest American building west of the Mississippi.) Other notable buildings are the Washington Mutual Tower, Two Union Square, Nordstrom’s flagship store, Benaroya Hall, the new Seattle Central Library designed by Rem Koolhaas, and the main building of the Seattle Art Museum (built 1991, expanded 2007), the main facade of which was designed by Robert Venturi. Downtown parks include Westlake Park, Freeway Park, and Victor Steinbrueck Park. The Olympic Sculpture Park was completed on the Belltown waterfront in January 2007.

시애틀 (Seattle)은 미국 워싱턴 주 서북단에 있는 워싱턴 주 최대의 도시이다. 퓨젯사운드와 워싱턴 호 사이에 자리잡고 있다. 킹 군의 군청 소재지이다. 시애틀 시의 인구는 2009년 4월 현재 약 60만 2천명이고 퓨젯사운드 근교의 인구까지 합치면 약 340만명으로 미국에서 15번째로 큰 대도시권을 형성하고 있다. 피제트만 깊숙이 위치하는 양항(良港)으로서, 아시아로 향하는 중요한 무역항이며, 북양어업의 기지이기도 하다. 태평양 횡단 대권(大圈) 코스 공로의 중계점으로도 중요하다. 공업은 항공기·선박·제관(製罐)·섬유 등이 주력이며, 부근에서는 목재가 많이 산출되고 농업도 발달해 있으므로 그 집산지이기도 한다. 기후는 연중 온화하며, 산수(山水)가 아름답다.

이소룡이 계신 곳 Lake View Cemetery와 잘 꾸며진 Volunteer Park

여행 책자 추천 여행지에 공동 묘지가 있어서 의아했다. 그러나 이 공동묘지는 그 유명한 이소룡과 그의 아들이 안치 되어 있는 곳이다. 묘지에 들어서니 나도 언젠가 이렇게 묻히겠지 하는 생각을 하였다. 어떤 인생을 살아 왔는지… 앞으로 어떻게 살건지… 새삼 많은 생각을 하게 만든 장소이다. 공동 묘지내 특히, 부부 무덤이 잘 꾸며져 있고, 신기하게 중국인들이 정말 많았다.

Waterfront of Seattle, in the state of Washington, USA, is the most urbanized portion of the Elliott Bay shore. It runs from the Pioneer Square shore roughly northwest past Downtown Seattle and Belltown, ending at the Broad Street site of the Olympic Sculpture Park. The Central Waterfront (website) was once the hub of Seattle’s maritime activity. Since the construction of a container port to its south in the 1960s, the area has increasingly been converted to recreational and retail uses. As of 2008, several century-old piers are devoted to shops and restaurants. There are several parks, an aquarium, and one over-water hotel. Some docks remain on the Central Waterfront, under the authority of the Port of Seattle, including a cruise ship dock, ferry terminals, and a fireboat dock. There are many architectural vestiges of the area’s past status as the heart of a port, and a handful of businesses have remained in operation since that time.

Olympic Sculpture Park

The Olympic Sculpture Park is a public park in Seattle, Washington that opened on January 20, 2007. The park consists of a 9-acre (36,000 m2) outdoor sculpture museum and beach. The park was designed by Weiss/Manfredi Architects, along with Charles Anderson Landscape Architecture and other consultants. It is situated at the northern end of the Seattle seawall and the southern end of Myrtle Edwards Park. The former industrial site was occupied by the oil and gas corporation Unocal until the 1970s and subsequently became a contaminated brownfield before the Seattle Art Museum proposed to transform the area into one of the only green spaces in Downtown Seattle. The park is operated by the Seattle Art Museum, which also operates an expanded main branch at First Avenue and University Street and the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill.
